Managing Billing

Learn how to switch billing cycles, schedule downgrades, manage payment methods, and cancel your subscription when needed.

Step 1: Switching Between Monthly and Annual Billing

TaskLine lets you switch your billing cycle at any time from the Settings page or the Plans page. You'll see two buttons that allow you to toggle your billing frequency:

  • "Switch to Annual" — if you're currently on monthly billing, this button appears and lets you move to annual billing for a discounted rate.
  • "Switch to Monthly" — if you're on annual billing, this button lets you move back to monthly billing at the standard rate.

When switching to annual billing, the change takes effect immediately and you receive the discounted rate for the full year. When switching to monthly, the change is scheduled for the end of your current annual period so you get the full value of what you already paid.

Pro Tip: Switching to annual billing is one of the easiest ways to save money on TaskLine. The discount applies to all paid tiers and you can see exactly how much you'll save before confirming.

Step 2: Understanding Downgrade Scheduling

If you decide to move to a lower tier, the downgrade works differently from an upgrade. When you downgrade:

  • The change does not take effect immediately. Instead, it is scheduled for the end of your current billing period.
  • You continue to have full access to your current tier's features and limits until that period ends.
  • There is no proration or refund for downgrades — you've already paid for the current period, so you keep those benefits until it expires.
  • Once the billing period ends, your account automatically transitions to the lower tier and the new (lower) rate applies going forward.
Note: If you have more items (projects, clients, etc.) than the lower tier allows, excess items will be moved to the Locked tab when the downgrade takes effect. You won't lose any data, but you'll need to upgrade again or remove items to regain access.

Step 3: Cancelling Your Subscription

If you need to cancel your subscription entirely, you can do so from the Settings page under your subscription section. Cancellation follows the same scheduling logic as downgrades:

  • Your paid features remain active until the end of the current billing period.
  • After the period ends, your account reverts to the Free tier.
  • All your data is preserved — nothing is deleted. Items exceeding Free tier limits are moved to the Locked tab.

You can resubscribe at any time by returning to the Plans page and selecting a paid tier. Your data and history will still be there.

Step 4: Managing Payment Methods

Your payment method is managed through Stripe's secure payment infrastructure. From the Settings page, you can:

  • View your current payment method — see the card type and last four digits on file.
  • Update your payment method — add a new card or change to a different payment method through the secure Stripe portal.
  • View billing history — review past charges, invoices, and payment confirmations.

All payment processing is handled by Stripe. TaskLine never stores your full card details — they are securely managed by Stripe's PCI-compliant infrastructure.

Pro Tip: Keep your payment method up to date to avoid service interruptions. If a payment fails, TaskLine will notify you and give you a grace period to update your card before any features are restricted.
